"Official" History

This is the official nmlegis action history. I'm doing my best to translate the LONG/WEIRD-STRING to something less gibberishy. And before you ask, no, the "Legis Day" number has no mapping to the real world.

SENATE BILL 379

57th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - first session, 2025

INTRODUCED BY

Pete Campos

AN ACT

RELATING TO STATE SONGS; DECLARING "GRACIAS NEW MEXICO", WRITTEN BY CAROL J. MAYBERRY-SANCHEZ, AS THE OFFICIAL STATE WINTER HOLIDAY SONG.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

SECTION 1. A new section of Chapter 12, Article 3 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

"[NEW MATERIAL] STATE WINTER HOLIDAY SONG.--The words and music of "Gracias New Mexico", written by Carol J. Mayberry-Sanchez, are declared to be the state winter holiday song. The words are:

                     "(first verse)

                Feast day empanadas

                Chile simmers, green and red

                Dances at the pueblos

                Native ladies baking bread

                Bizcochitos in the oven

                Posole on the stove

                Moms and daughters busy making

                Tamales tied with bows

                     (chorus)

                Gracias New Mexico

For family, friends and folks we know

                O Come All Ye Faithful

                Gracias New Mexico

                     (second verse)

                Wild horses graze together

Some hunker near a pinon tree

                The snow is gently falling

In a pattern only clouds can see

                Winding through a deep arroyo

A shepherd tends his flock of sheep

                In this land of enchantment

                December snuggles sound asleep

                     (chorus)

                Gracias New Mexico

For family, friends and folks we know

                O Come All Ye Faithful

                Gracias New Mexico

                     (third verse)

                Turquoise skies change to starlight

                Moon-cast shadows on the snow

                Folks prepare for Las Posadas

                Farolitos cast a sunset glow

A pinon fire in the kiva

                Flickers on adobe walls

A sweet guitar is softly playing

A verse of Deck the Halls

                     (chorus)

                Gracias New Mexico

For family, friends and folks we know

                O Come All Ye Faithful

                Gracias New Mexico

A season for caring, sharing, giving love

                That we may grow

                Peacefully, together

                Gracias New Mexico"."
