AN ACT

RELATING TO THE LEGISLATURE; REQUIRING THE INSTALLATION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of Chapter 2, Article 3 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS.--

          A. The director of the legislative council service shall ensure that no later than December 31, 2026, at least forty-three percent of the vehicle parking spaces in the parking facility located beneath the building in which the legislature is housed are equipped with an electric vehicle charging station.

          B. For the purposes of this section:

                (1) "electric vehicle" means a motor vehicle that derives power from electricity stored in a battery that is

capable of being recharged from an external source of electricity; and

                (2) "electric vehicle charging station" means a facility that transfers electricity to an electric vehicle from an external source."
