FOR THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE

 

AN ACT

RELATING TO EDUCATION; PROVIDING FOR THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE TO STUDY ISSUES PERTAINING TO NEW MEXICO'S PUBLIC EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. Section 2-10-3 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1971, Chapter 287, Section 3, as amended) is amended to read:

     "2-10-3. DUTIES OF THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE.--The legislative education study committee shall:

          A. direct the director in [his] the work [for] of the committee;

          B. conduct a continuing study of all education in New Mexico, the laws governing such education and the policies and costs of [the New Mexico] New Mexico's public educational system [provided that such studies shall not duplicate studies conducted by the board of educational finance nor shall such studies, related to higher education, deal with any subject other than the training of certified teaching personnel in post-secondary institutions];

          C. recommend changes in laws relating to education if any are deemed desirable and draft and present to the legislature any legislation necessary; and

          D. make a full report of its findings and recommendations for the consideration of each odd-year legislative session on or before the tenth day [thereof] of that session and may make additional reports as it deems necessary."
