"Official" History

This is the official nmlegis action history. I'm doing my best to translate the LONG/WEIRD-STRING to something less gibberishy. And before you ask, no, the "Legis Day" number has no mapping to the real world.

A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 18, 2025 "NEW MEXICO HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IN RECOGNITION OF THE NEW MEXICO HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION'S LONG SERVICE AND DEDICATION TO FOSTERING A VIBRANT AND STABLE HOUSING INDUSTRY.

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico home builders association is an important member-driven trade association that was chartered with the national association of home builders in 1959 to improve working and operating conditions in the construction industry in order to provide the residents of New Mexico with safe, quality housing and commercial buildings; and

     WHEREAS, the mission of the New Mexico home builders association is accomplished in part by serving as a proactive participant and being the voice of its members in the legislative and regulatory processes; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico home builders association provides industry-leading information, proactive advocacy, education and resources to its members and the public, fostering a positive image of both the association and the construction industry. Committed to improving industry standards, the association works to improve the construction environment, ensuring New Mexico residents have access to safe, high-quality housing and commercial buildings while promoting home ownership across the state; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico home builders association is proud to be affiliated with the national association of home builders and nine local entities that represent the housing industry and serve as advocates for home ownership, including the Santa Fe area home builders association, the San Juan county home builders association, the home builders association of central New Mexico, the home builders association of eastern New Mexico, the building contractors association of Otero county, the Lincoln county home builders association, the southwest New Mexico home builders association, the building contractors association of southeast New Mexico and the Las Cruces home builders association; and

     WHEREAS, the priorities of the New Mexico home builders association are to advocate for attainable housing in New Mexico through the legislative process, provide educational opportunities for its members, communicate with its members timely and relevant information that impacts the construction industry and promote homeownership statewide; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico home builders association has served a pivotal role in crafting the framework for the Workers' Compensation Act to keep employer costs reasonable while ensuring workers in New Mexico have a safe and reliable pathway to return to work after a work-related injury; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico home builders association has worked to relieve the burden of double taxation in the construction industry and remains the primary conduit for gross receipts tax information to residential and commercial contractors doing business in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico home builders association understands the need for affordability in the New Mexico housing market and has encouraged the consideration of affordability as a factor in the adoption of the state's building and energy codes, in employing innovative infrastructure financing paths and in crafting the Development Fees Act;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 18, 2025 be declared "New Mexico Home Builders Association Day" in the house of representatives in recognition of the organization's service and dedication to the housing industry in New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the president of the board of directors and the chief executive officer of the New Mexico home builders association.
